I’ve worked at the same place for the past seven years and now they are about to lay people off. I have felt called to originally apply for my first position here and many things have happened in my life since then that has God’s hand in it all along. Now I feel that I will be let go. The company is not doing well financially and has had a hard time dealing with the cheap Chinese imports that have flooded and taken over our markets here in the US. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t do well with accountability and wants to reside with status quo and the elite buddies that run the company. Today, I came to my boss to get permission to spend $800 on the company vehicle for broken air conditioning. He first replied “we’re not broke”! I replied that I knew that we were trying to watch our expenses and wanted to make sure this was appropriate. He told me “we would have to get it fixed any way once we sent it back to the lease company”. Followed by “when will your truck be fixed”. In other ‘lose my job’ news the VP cleared his calendar this week and has asked the corporate human resource director to come in the office this week. The HR person was not scheduled to be in the office this week. The rumors are that there will be some lay offs at the mfg plants and in corporate. Since I’m not in the “inner circle” and that there aren’t that many in “corporate”, I feel my time may be up. My boss is a wimp - he gives great annual reviews but hates confrontation. So, I never get any real honest feedback from him. We’ll see what happens this week. I believe the layoffs will happen this Friday.
